If you’ve ever felt like you have nothing to wear, even though your closet is overflowing with clothes, here’s an interesting exercise to help you find out how to align your style with the clothes in your closet. Well, it might not be that your closet is too full or that you don’t like your current style, but rather that your wardrobe doesn’t fit your lifestyle. If you’re having trouble choosing the right outfit every morning, here’s a simple exercise to help you align your style with the clothes in your closet. COMPARE YOUR CLOTHES IN YOUR WARDROBE VS. YOUR LIFESTYLE Consider how you spend your time compared to the clothes you currently own. Use page seven of the free sustainable style guide to write down how much time you spend each week doing the activities below, compared to the percentage of your clothes that are suitable for these activities. It doesn't have to be exact, but play with this idea until you get it 100%.
Use these categories to create a pie chart: active, casual, professional, business casual, semi-decent, dressy, and formal. Choose a color and fill in the box according to how much it applies, then compare the two charts. EVALUATE Think about your lifestyle compared to your current wardrobe and ask yourself the following three questions:
Maybe you work from home and have a bunch of cute, simple tops - but you usually wear them with jeans or uncomfortable skirts. You don't like tight, uncomfortable jeans when you work from home, and you won't be wearing a skirt at home, so you might need to find some comfy pants that you can pair with your existing tops. Or you could invest in a few big, long sweaters that you can wear over leggings. WORK ON YOUR LIST Going back to the list you created on your phone or in the sustainable style guide on page 6 where we talked about finding the perfect fit , add to or edit it based on what you learned from this exercise. If you shop with your lifestyle in mind, you can get the most out of your wardrobe and enjoy getting dressed more! |
